Solving Problems With Low Water Pressure

Municipal-wide low water pressure problems happen rarely, but they can occur every once in while. If you suddenly find that the flow of water from your faucets has slowed to a trickle, don’t call for plumbing service just yet. First, you’ll need to determine if the problem is affecting the whole area or your home alone.

Our expert plumbers at A-1 Comfort Care Heating, Cooling & Plumbing recommend checking on the following to find the real cause of your water pressure issues.

Get Information

If you don’t already have one, get a water pressure gauge from your local home improvement store. Using this device is fairly easy. First turn off all faucets and water connections in your home, including dishwashers and washing machines, then screw the gauge to an outdoor hose spigot. Turn the water on and measure the pressure. Normal readings range from 60 to 75 psi. Anything below or above these numbers is a sure indication of an underlying issue.

Ask Your Neighbors

The fastest way to rule out municipal water issues is to ask your neighbors. If they’re experiencing the same problems as you, it’s likely that the issue lies beyond your ability to fix. You can also call local plumbing services to confirm whether it really is a problem for the whole area.

Have a Professional Inspect Your Plumbing

Water pressure problems can be a little too complex for a DIY fix. A professional check-up will enable any issues with your plumbing to be properly identified and resolved, including the ones that are causing the drop in water pressure. Neglecting to address these problems in a timely manner could lead to bigger and more costly consequences in the future.
