Low Hot Water Supply
Water heaters are designed to heat water at a set rate and store it for future use, maintaining a consistent temperature until the tank is empty. However, if the appliance fills up rapidly due to high water pressure, the water will refill the tank too quickly. This can result in cold water overriding the hot water.
Adjust Your Regulator
First, turn off your home’s main water supply valve and loosen the locking wheel nut of your water pressure regulator using a wrench. Then, decrease water pressure by turning the screw counter-clockwise with a screwdriver. Re-test the system and make sure the pressure is between 40 and 60 PSI. Once you have reached your desired pressure, secure the regulator until the adjustment screw is steady. Make sure to do this before going back to the main line and slowly turning the valve back on.
Replace Your Regulator
Once the water main valve is shut off, open the highest and lowest faucets in your home to drain the water from the system. Catch water with plastic sheeting and a bucket. Afterward, remove your old regulator before installing the replacement. Make sure the locking nuts are tightened and the unit is ready for a leak test. If you notice a slow leak, try resealing the O-rings. When everything is settled, adjust your new regulator to your preferred water pressure level before using it.
