How to Fix a Leaky Air Conditioner

If water starts leaking from your air conditioning system, you can bet this isn’t a good sign. A-1 Comfort Care Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, one of the highly trusted HVAC installation contractors in the area, shares a few tips on dealing with a leaky air conditioner.

Fixing Your AC Unit

It’s always best to consult with a professional and have them carry out any air conditioner repairs. But while you’re waiting for the contractor to arrive at your home, there are a few things you can do to keep the problem from getting worse.

If the system relies on gravity in order to drain the condensate, the condensate should be able to flow freely to the outside. Sometimes the drain line gets clogged with mold and slime, however, inhibiting the proper flow of the condensate.

In the case of air conditioning systems that use a condensate pump, a common cause of water backing up and overflowing the pan is a malfunctioning pump. Much like the drain line, the pan tends to harbor slime and mold. Make sure to clean up the drain line and pan. Or, if it’s already too plugged up with slime, it might be best to cut that section out and replace it.

Tools

One of the biggest advantages of enlisting professional air conditioning repair services is access to the right tools. Most of the necessary tools and equipment can be easily found in local hardware and home improvement stores, but it can be a challenge for some homeowners to select the right products for their units or to use the tools correctly.

Having an expert to advise you on the best way to fix your AC unit can give you peace of mind because you won’t have to worry about choosing the wrong products or tools, which could potentially cost you more.
